Looks like the highly anticipated reunion concert of the Eraserheads has been getting a lot of negative feedback from the media because of their alleged sponsorship from a major tobacco firm – Philip Morris. Philip Morris already confirmed that their company is behind the sponsorship of the said event.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) and tobacco control advocates appealed to the Eraserheads to reject Philip Morris’ sponsorship of their one-night reunion concert that is set on August 30. DOH warned Philip Morris that they’d be charged with criminal offense if the concert pushes through. According to Republic Act No. 9211 or the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003 which prohibits cigar companies from sponsoring sports, cultural, and artistic events of individual or team athletes, artists and performers. Ouch!

eraserheads concertThe hype built up on the coming Eraserheads reunion concert is spreading like wild fire in the Philippine blogosphere and in the Philippine media as well. I can’t blame us Pinoys with the rising anticipation of the biggest concert event in our country, Eraserheads is the only OPM band that mattered during the 90’s. Eraserhead’s music has sort of been the soundtrack of my life, I sang “Pare Ko” with all my heart when I first got my heart broken when I was 16, the song “Magasin” touched my sentiments in a unique way, “With a Smile” kept my spirits afloat when I’m depressed, while “Ang Huling El Bimbo” was an instant classic that captured the hearts of every Filipino. The list goes on and the influence that the Eraserheads made in our music industry cannot be overlooked.

eraserheadsThis entry was guest posted by my cousin Khristina Villacorta, a big fan of the Eraserheads and a true blue music junkie who listens to almost every genre of music from A Tribe Called Quest to Snow Patrol to Hed Kandi. She is now happily married and currently residing in Seattle Washington with her husband VJ and their lovely daughter Katrina Ysabel.

So it is true. The legendary band Eraserheads is having a 45-minute free reunion concert come August 30 at the CCP Grounds. The said band disbanded for six years and this upcoming occasion will most definitely mark a milestone in the Philippine music industry.

Manny PacquiaoI know a lot of us Pinoys and boxing fans around the world are already eagerly awaiting to watch Pacquiao send Diaz on the floor come June 28 in a match dubbed as Lethal Combination. I’m sure the whole country will put down everything just to watch Manny Pacquaio slug it out with Diaz. Did you notice every time there’s a Pacquiao fight, traffic seems to be no problem when you drive around EDSA. Even the Philippine National Police claims that crime rate drops to zero whenever there’s a Pacquaio fight. Pinoys from all walks of life unite and gather around their TV sets just to cheer for Pacquaio.

acer aspire 4715I know it’s unfair to pit an Asus Eee PC notebook against a bunch of laptops in the market that is twice the size and also relatively cheap. What made me not buy an Asus Eee PC is because of my preferences and computer usage is very demanding. I work full time for our small publication business and I do a lot of layout and graphic design that’s why I need a solid machine that’s fast enough and with lots of storage. Downloading music and watching movies occasionally is also a part of my routine that’s why speed and storage is a big factor for me in choosing the right machine that would live up to my demands.

Jeeez… I’ve been dying to get me one of those Asus Eee PC 701 2GB laptop. You know why? REASON NO. 1: It’s the best and cheapest laptop around. Even Abe of Yugatech.com agrees and to quote his review, The Asus Eee PC is the first sub-20k laptop to ever be commercially available in the Philippines. IMO, the price is a huge factor for its apparent popularity and overall performance is best bang for the buck.” Now, you can own an Asus Eee PC Laptop for only Php12,498 with PLDT’s Ultra Broadband Blowout PC Event. REASON NO. 2: The Asus Eee PC seems to be the perfect weapon of choice for bloggers on the go. Its built-in WiFi automatically detects and connects to the Internet at any hotspot. That means you can update your blog with new posts even if you’re out enjoying coffee at your favorite WiFi spot.
