Just when we thought it was all about Manny Pacquiao and Charice Pempengco’s many achievements, along came the Philippine All Stars successful win at the 2008 World Hip-Hop Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada last August 3. Philippine All Stars - Philippines, 2. Kaba Modern - USA, 3. Prestige - New Zealand, 4. Xtreme Soul Style - Canada, 5. Legacy - New Zealand, 6. Eclectik - Trinidad & Tobago, 7. If you are a Filipino and you haven’t heard of Team Manila shirts, you are missing out on a lot. I have been proudly rocking a Team Manila shirt for three years now since my first purchase at their store in Rockwell Makati. I own 12 shirts now and the number of my collection just keeps growing and it’s fast becoming an addiction. What makes Team Manila shirts uniquely Pinoy is their stylish cool designs, from our national icon – Jose Rizal rocking a Ray Ban sunglasses to silhouettes of our own folk dancers aptly titled United Tinikling Collective.

Manny PacquiaoOnce again, “People’s Champ” Manny Pacquiao brought honor and pride to our country by knocking out David Diaz to win the WBC lightweight title before a jampacked crowd at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Earlier in the fight, Pacquiao fought from the distance with lethal combinations of jabs and upper cuts. David Diaz, however, kept on the offense and defense as he continued to weather blows released by the Filipino bomber. While Diaz connected with punches to Pacquiao’s head and body, the Filipino fought on with two-fisted attacks.

On the fifth round, Manny Pacquiao kept David Diaz at bay with jabs followed by strong right hooks. Diaz, however, tried attacking Pacquiao with several hooks to the body. The Filipino shrugged the attacks, even raising his hands. Pacquiao battered the Mexican-American’s bloodied right eye and often attacked the body. Blood continued to gush from Diaz’s right eye.

bayani juanDon’t it make you feel proud being a Filipino whenever you hear Bagong Simula, the theme song of ABS-CBN Foundation Inc.’s BayaniJuan advocacy program? I chanced upon the music video the other day for the first time and I can’t help but feel bothered with the graphic depiction of poverty in our country. My eyes opened a floodgate of tears seeing a kid sleeping on the sidewalk, old newspaper serves what it seemed like a mattress to cover the cold concrete. As the music video continues and our flag is proudly brandished, it sparked a flame in my heart that still, there is hope for our ailing nation. I believe as long as there are people out there willing to help, we can climb out of poverty and corruption, but we need to start within ourselves first.

As a part of my commitment to promote the creativity of our fellow Pinoy kababayans in my Pinoy Rocks! campaign, I now present to you a uniquely Pinoy clothing company – The Tshirt Project. I promised the guys over at TTP Trinoma branch that I would blog and promote their store here at PinoyRak so here it goes. I hope you get to visit this post one of these days.

That was last two weeks ago when me and my girlfriend chanced upon The Tshirt Project at Trinoma. We were looking for a shoe boutique and we happened to pass by a group of people crowding a store that caught our attention. Curious about the buzz, so we decided to investigate for ourselves. I instantly smiled the moment we walked in.

<S> Marks the SpotI promised last time that I’m going to feature an OPM band as a part of my Pinoy Rocks! campaign. After a few delays here it goes – <S> Marks the Spot released just February marks Sandwich 10th year in the music industry. I bought my copy just last month when they did a mall tour here at SM City in Marilao. Since then, <S> Marks the Spot is in on my heavy rotation in my iTunes. Here are my Top 5 reasons why you should get a copy:

  1. The song Betamax is a monster.
  2. For 300Php you support Original Pilipino Music.
  3. The Album includes a bonus CD featuring 13 remixes of their past hits.
