I know how much we Pinoys love movies, I had enough time today to search for the coolest update about upcoming Hollywood movies. So, today at Pinoy Raket Online as an addition to my Local 411 section, I present to you the list of upcoming movie sequels you might not know about. I found this interesting article over at Den of Geek. I cut down the list to half and included the movies I’m interested in, but you can find the complete list over here. The list of films below is in their various stages of production.

  1. The Brazilian Job: the follow up to Paramount’s US remake of The Italian Job is still on the cards, and it’s got a 2009 release date marked. Jason Statham, Mos Def, Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron are attached, as is director F Gary Gray. Jomari’s thoughts: Who doesn’t love The Italian Job? Though it may not be the most original movie, still it’s one of the best heist movie that made buzz in 2003.
  2. I, Robot 2: All we know on this one is that it’s in the scripting stages still, with a potential 2010 release date planned in. No news on Mr Smith’s involvement. Jomari’s thoughts: The first movie was a clever idea that started out bad and finishes well. I’m expecting the same amount of action and stunning visual effects that’s why I’m looking forward for the next sequel.
  3. I Am Legend 2: Warner’s huge Christmas 2007 hit could also have a follow up, although it’d be interesting to see if Will Smith returned to it. A 2010 release date is also being mooted for this one. Jomari’s thoughts: If there is any movie sequel in the future that I’m highly anticipating, it’s got to be I Am Legend 2. The real driving force of I Am Legend is Will Smith’s spectacular performance as Dr. Robert Neville. Cinematography was excellent throughout, the storyline and script isbrilliant. Simply put, the movie was phenomenal. Who wouldn’t want a goddamn sequel? Even internet movie pirates went berserk on which team could first produce a decent clear copy of this movie and one team made history by coming up with an R5 copy that was close to a DVDRip a few days after the movie was released. But still it didn’t stopped I Am Legend to rake in millions of money at the box office.
  4. National Treasure 3: Not a huge surprise, but as the Nic Cage Indiana Jones knock off franchise has proved to be quite a juggernaut, you’ll only have to wait until 2011 for the third film in the series. Jomari’s thoughts: I still somehow think that this movie was riding the popularity of Da Vinci Code conspiracy type of movie. Still it’s worth checking.
  5. Jeepers Creepers 3: MGM is running the rule over a potential third instalment in the horror franchise, with director Victor Salva still attached. Hmmm. Jomari’s thoughts: Jeepers Creepers does exactly what its tag line says. It’s creepy yes and it’s silly. Not a phenomenal horror flick just an average teen horror movie you’d probably watch with your girlfriend. Hehehe.
  6. Shrek 5: The fourth film was a no-brainer after the tepid third outing made so much cash. But a fifth instalment has also been confirmed. No wonder Shrek is the same colour as an American dollar. Jomari’s thoughts: I didn’t like Shrek 4 but the first 3 were surprisingly good especially the first one. If the fifth part doesn’t deliver a great story line then the producers should think about… well, just ending it.
  7. Transporter 3: Statham again. He’s making this too, and it’s in pre-production. Presumably, he’ll go from Crank 2 straight onto this. Jomari’s thoughts: The first one was brilliant the second one was entertainingly unbelievable. I was feeling the Asian chick in the first Transporter, what’s her name again?
  8. The Untouchables: Capone Rising: A prequel to Brian De Palma’s cracking prohibition thriller of, er, twenty years ago. De Palma is back behind the camera, and the project is in the pre-production stages now. Jomari’s thoughts: I love mafia films. I think I’ve seen every gang-related, mafia flick from The Godfather Trilogy to the most recent one The Departed. I hope Brian De Palma delivers a great sequel to the original movie that was released way back in 1987. Capone Rising. Wow!
  9. Punisher: War Zone: Ray Stevenson becomes the third person to play The Punisher on screen. You’ll be able to find out how he did on 12th September this year. Jomari’s thoughts: The Punisher was an underrated movie that deserves a lot of props. Critics say the movie is too dark for its genre, those dumbasses haven’t picked up the comic book that’s why they say that the movie is too dark. They must be expecting a Batman type of hero. Tsk tsk. I’ll make sure I won’t miss this sequel when it comes out this year.
  10. Ace Ventura 3: No Jim Carrey though, and no chance of it seeing the inside of a cinema. Head to Blockbuster later in the year if you want to catch it. Jomari’s thoughts: An Ace Ventura film without Jim Carrey as the main character is going to be a disaster. Remember Dumb and Dumberer? That movie was not funny at all.
  11. Scary Movie 5/Saw 5: You could have guessed at these if you didn’t know about them already. Both should see the light before the end of the year. Sadly. Jomari’s thoughts: Scary Movie 5? Enough of it already, please. The producers made enough of money from it that it already needs a rest.

Well, that’s the list. Feel free to add your own thoughts about the movies and I will update this post with every comment you make that will link back to your blog.
