<S> Marks the SpotI promised last time that I’m going to feature an OPM band as a part of my Pinoy Rocks! campaign. After a few delays here it goes – <S> Marks the Spot released just February marks Sandwich 10th year in the music industry. I bought my copy just last month when they did a mall tour here at SM City in Marilao. Since then, <S> Marks the Spot is in on my heavy rotation in my iTunes. Here are my Top 5 reasons why you should get a copy:

  1. The song Betamax is a monster.
  2. For 300Php you support Original Pilipino Music.
  3. The Album includes a bonus CD featuring 13 remixes of their past hits.
  4. The CD contains a special sticker which fans are encouraged to stick in the most far off and far out places they can think off. They can send photos of the stuck sticker to the band who will then compile everything in a special website. Yey!
  5. Sandwich rocks! No further explanation needed. LOL.

I have always been fascinated with Sandwich music as i find it very unique among other Pinoy bands. Since their first album in 1998 Grip Stand Throw, that I bought in cassette tape format, I’ve been an ardent follower of their music. What I love most about their latest CD is the fresh and innovative feel to it. The new songs “Manila”, “Betamax”, “Candelaria”, speaks of their campaign to promote nationalism. While songs like “Partner in Crime”, “Two Lovers”, “Selos”, and “Her Favorite Band” are an easy favorites.

The highlight of this CD is “Betamax”. I’m telling you, “Betamax” is a monster! I love playing this song while driving my car. You can hear “Betamax” blasting thru my speakers, my windows rolled down as I sing along. LOL! I just love that song. It brings back the memories of Original Pilipino Music in its earlier days. What makes the lyrics to this song special is Sandwich’s shoutouts to OPM pioneer artists who came before them – from Pepe Smith, Joey Ayala, Apo Hiking Society, Francis M, Rey Valera to Rico J Puno to name a few. I included below a YouTube clip of their newly released “Betamax” music video. So grab yourselves a copy of their new CD and support Original Pinoy Music.

Oh and by the way, I’m not being paid for this. LOL! The CD is that good. No bullshit. I just know how to appreciate great work from our fellow Pinoy artists who needs to be recognized for their effort in promoting good Filipino music. And Sandwich deserves that much props. Pinoy Raket Online salutes Sandwich! Know more about Sandwich: Band Profile & MySpace.
